Crown Clinic’s surgeon Asim Shahmalak was hugely honoured to be featured in the Sunday Times’ Altnernative Rich List at the weekend.
We are all familiar with the Sunday Times’ Rich List which lists the wealthiest people in the UK every year.
This second ‘Alternative’ list comes out with the Sunday Times on the same day and champions the achievements of individuals who make a real contribution to life here and abroad.
As the compilers point out in the introduction, these are the people who ‘strive to make the world a better place’. They are ‘driven by something different’.
Asim was one of 30 people who ‘exemplify the most uplifting side of humanity’ with qualities of ‘wisdom, altruism, courage, integrity and purpose’.
Asim was chosen for his charitable work with the victims of acid attacks in his homeland of Pakistan – providing hair transplants, eyebrow and eyelash transplants free of charge over several years, bringing a team from Crown Clinic to a hospital in Karachi.
The panel appear to have picked up on an excellent piece in the Times from last June on Asim’s charitable work.
As one of the judging panel, Trevor Phillips, said: “What impresses me is when people choose to do difficult things. This man (Asim) doesn’t have to do any of this, yet he chooses to transform people’s lives.”
Thank-you to the Sunday Times for the wonderful honour – it really does mean the world to Asim and the whole of the Crown Clinic team.
